China CBRC says local govt debt under control
print |email this article BEIJING - China has brought the risks of local government financing vehicles and property loans under control and will continue to strictly monitor the systems, the country's banking watchdog said in its annual report released on Tuesday.

The China Banking Regulatory Commission (CBRC) said it had built up a firewall between the official banking system, a murky shadow banking sector and a wild underground lending market.

"We will strictly prevent risks from local government financing vehicles from growing," the CBRC said in its annual report sketching out its 2012 priorities.

"We will improve and enhance property loan risk checks,"CBRC said. "The risk level in property loans is falling continuously," it added.

The agency said it will also keep close watch on risks caused by weakening external demands, adding that "recession risks in the Euro zone are growing".

Investors are deeply concerned that a considerable amount China's local government debt, estimated at US$1.70 trillion at the end of 2010, and property loans could turn sour, crippling the banking system in the world's number two economy.

Beijing has, however, repeatedly played down fears about local government debt risks and insists systemic problems are unlikely.

According to the numbers provided by CBRC, the overall non-performing loans in China's banking system fell to 1.05 trillion yuan at the end of 2011, representing a ratio of 1.77 per cent, or 0.66 percentage points less than the previous year.

The weighted average capital adequacy ratio of Chinese commercial banks has increased by 0.55 percentage points to 12.71 per cent at the end of 2011, CBRC said.

CBRC said Chinese banks will be encouraged to lend more to small businesses and agricultural sectors. - REUTERS
How resilient are Essence's potato strains to pests?
HuhHuhHuh
******
Emergency action has been taken by a European Commission committee to stop the spread of a beetle which has the potential to damage British potato production.

Epitrix, a flea beetle, has already infected crops in all the potato production areas of Portugal and the Galicia region of Spain after being introduced inadvertently to Europe from the US.
Possible Profit Warning again for Q4 results?

And still no news of DBS loan refinancing??
have been close to a YEAR!!!!

If you are Morgan Stanley or DBS, will you be able to still to remain composed looking at the company full year results?
Prepare for the worst...dipping below 10 cents soon...

recently, one of my friends operating food catering business told me that the price of potato is really coming down...Wholesaler is advising him to buy more for the same price...
Insider trades for Essence looks interesting...
As expected, dropping to below 10 cents....profit warning for 4th Q will follow suit?
guess the bloodshed will continue as the starch price is still very depressed with no sign of recovery.

Have the company gotten rid of all its toxic inventory (starch, etc) produced from very high cost potatoes by the end of Q3?

If not, Q4 will still be a bloody loss for company...

The Q4 result will be out in 2/3 weeks time.

It will be interesting to look at their cash flow and holdings to size up how much damages were done and whether fresh capital is required. If yes, how are they going to raise them?
Doing a rights issue at this stage may backfire?

Will anyone subscribe?

Does CEO have money to subscribe?

Q4 results are expected to be bad too as they still had toxic inventory from Q3.

The key question is whether A/Rs are coming in fast enough for company to repay MS loan and whether DBS is willing to refinance the remaining loan..
