China ship enters strait, Taiwan warns against 'panic'
China's only aircraft carrier has entered the Taiwan Strait in a highly symbolic show of strength, but Taiwan insisted Wednesday there was no need for panic even as tensions boil over the island's diplomatic status.
Beijing has upped its military drills near the island in recent weeks after being incensed by a congratulatory phone call from Taiwan's president Tsai Ing-wen to US president-elect Donald Trump, and by a subsequent transit stop by Tsai in the US.
China considers Taiwan a breakaway province to be brought back into its fold. The US is the island's most powerful ally and main arms supplier, despite having no official diplomatic relations since recognising Beijing in 1979.
The Liaoning aircraft carrier has not entered Taiwanese waters but has gone into an area covered by the island's air defence zone, Taiwan's defence ministry said.

Not that I agree with most of Trump words. But from the opposition he gets from it, he truly represents the change of America can happen.
He is a lifeline for millions of low income low educated americans whites and even blacks/asians. Who won't be able to take advantage of better and efficient economy. This people basically needs lower level factory mfg job.
President Trump is a minority President. Taking a look at the popular vote results, one have to go back 141 years to have a pre-predecessor (Rutherford Hayes-1876) beat him to exceeding his margin loss of 2.1%. Even then, US population was low and Hayes 1876's 3% margin loss translated to 252k folks. In terms of absolute numbers, he is hands-down winner with margin loss of more than 2.1mil folks.

By now it should be very clear that intellectuals, from media, press, intelligence, middle class, and yes even brains in the entertainment industry don't agree with him. I for one just hope this 4 years will pass with minimal damage.

But the intellects forgot one thing: voting is not compulsory and some intellects are not interested in voting or politics. It is those with a lot of unhappiness are. I don't know what is it called psychologically (green eye monster syndrome?) where a kid given a choice of 1 sweet for himself and 3 for the other boy; vs 3 for himself and 10 for the other boy usually will choose the former. It sounds dumb but that's what happened to the Batam-Singapore-Johor growth triangle.

Things are never simplistic or logical. Effectively the poorer segment of the country is saying to the elites: we go down together

That's why there is certain merit in Singapore system of compulsory voting. Having said that Trump is a test if 1) politicians didn't run the country 2) CEO make good president etc

From his selected and appointed ministers so far, it seems to me that you are hoping the foxes to save the chicken.
Hopefully the foxes may change their nature, but naturally I won't hold my breath.
