Taxi giant ComfortDelGro to simplify fares

The only reason why I still pick taxis over Uber/Grab is because of the surge pricing, especially during peak periods and high passenger volume.
Budget 2017

"A volumetric diesel duty will be introduced to incentivise reduced diesel consumption.

To help businesses adjust, commercial diesel vehicles will be provided a 100 per cent road tax rebate for one year, and a partial road tax rebate for another two years."

Interesting I do not see significant stock price movement due to the diesel duty

Disappointing, no mention of electric vehicles.
Lol no need subsidize electric, it's the market disruptor, so long its cheaper to run, will naturally kill of the diesel vehicles.

agree with u. i am very disappointed in how comfortdelgo has not been keeping up with times. uber and grab in singapore for ages, but they still crawling like tortoise to kill off their midnight surcharges
Still need lots of support to build up the infrastructure (charging network, regulations etc). Think there may be concerns that the incumbent can't take the disruption?

Edit: Here comes a New Challenger!

Not vested

Up against stubborn competition from private-hire car services Uber and Grab, more cabbies have been giving up their taxis this year.

For the first five months of this year, the average proportion of the taxi fleet which is sitting idle in yards - also called the unhired rate - hit 9.1 per cent. This is nearly double the average unhired rate of 5 per cent in the same period last year, according to data the Land Transport Authority (LTA) shared with The Straits Times recently.

A case of joining your competitors when you probably may not be able to 'kill' them off?

More like "enemy of the enemy is a friend".

CD likely to start burning money on taxis. $3 Masterpay promo cannot make it...
Seems like it was always going to happen? So it is now the 2 biggest boys (Uber + Comfort Delgro) vs the rest of Spore (Grab + SMRT + Prime + Transcab + Premier)
