Nope, not vested in any way. I like simplicity. So just thought I would try to outdo you with my swakoo analysis. Sleepy

No need to try to outdo me lah.. I already kow-tow to,

Yes, Master Oogway...

I better pretend to post some non-OT stuff in case I get banned...

Let's see how Old Man is funding his recent buys of Popular Hldgs shares. From another post,

Big Grin * Sell Koyok Time * Big Grin

Discount better than the regular Jun/Dec 20% off for members. Some more no need for cut-out voucher. Trying hard to attract customers to Prologue / Closing down sale? Tongue

My sister (also vested as she followed me) was the one who alerted me to the sale. Some info,

1. You'd need to spend $52 so that it's $38 after discount (25% for members) in order to have the 1-for-1 offer at Epilogue. $13 for a meatball pasta (quite pricey if you compare with Food Court prices but I guess quite ok if 1-for-1).

2. Discount (25% for members) also valid for Music CD and DVD. Usually at CD-Rama (within Popular bookstores), I think only 5% discount for members.

I'll check it our over the weekends and perhaps stock up on some of my kids' school stuff + Music CD (if really 25% off).

Tongue * End of Koyok Selling * Tongue

Anyone here perturbed about Popular's right issues from 2009 to 2011?

No. of shares outstanding jumped from 450,000,000 (2008) to 841,105,755 (2011)

Seems highly dilutive if one did not subscribe to their rights issue...

Any thoughts?

Any kind of rights issues, if you don't take up your rights, will definitely be highly dilutive to you. If the biz never recover, then you'd have made the right decision not to subscribe for the rights. Too bad for you if the biz does recover.

In the case of Popular Hldgs, their foray into a new segment (Property) was unfortunate as it coincided with the subsequent US financial crisis. They slipped into a Loss and their Balance Sheet became weak (high debts). The 2 rights issues helped to strengthen their balance sheet (reduce debts) and the timing was just right as Property prices started spiralling upwards.

So, loyal Popular Hldgs shareholders would have by now seen their share price doubled from it's lows of ~10ct in Jan-09(?). I wasn't vested then, so, I'd not bothered to do any computation but I think those who'd held and subscribed for the 2 rights ought to be having a profit by now.

Huh
I have been a Popular shareholders since its IPO at 36c in 1997.

I participated in both "highly dilutive' rights issues and my ave price for the share now is ard 13c.

Inclusive of dividends, my yield for the share is ard 85% or about 5.76% p.a.

All things considered, even though I invested blindly back in 1997, it has worked out OK for me in the end. Certainly not the worst performing stocks in my portfolio by any measures.

If I have time, I may work out my yield if I have not subscribe to both "highly dilutive' rights issues and see what the difference.

hi lonewolf, did you also buy shares from the open market? it seems quite hard to average down from 36 cents to 13 cents per share just from rights subscription...
wow i didnt know popular ipo dated back to 1997. i got mine around 10cent in late 2008...
