Did they just mark the investments to market? In that case fluctuations of underlying share price may move the amounts listed there. In addition investments in debt securities could mean holdings such as Singapore government bonds, which yield a bit more interest than normal fixed deposits, and are basically capital protected and very liquid.

unlikely. announcements would have been made if they increases their stake in SC Global.

Most of its 337,259,000(per-acquisition) is for their stakes in Hotel Properties and SC Global til financial year end 2011.

the new investment of almost 100 million should be recent acquisition after Dec 31st, 2011.

I remember seeing a video on youtube on african wildlife hunter gatherers, a hunter while stalking his wounded prey will look at tracks and try to visualize and tell what it was possibly doing at that time from just looking at the tracks and surroundings, maybe it took a rest was eating low hanging fruit or drinking water halfway it detect a nearby noise of something got spooked and ran off in easterly direction

As stock analyst maybe sometimes besides looking at the facts and figures also try to phantom or visulalize what they will do or what politicking between inter-sister companies that must have happened.

I suspect maybe all long they wanted to take apart Wheelock singapore maybe when ceo was still around he resisted and didn't allow anybody to touch his baby you can guess how determined corporate leaders can sometimes be when it comes to defending their territory, so maybe now when there's no ceo there's nobody left in charge of this baby.

another 150 million spent on investment, total investment(cost) more than 20% of audited net tangible assets.

Sometimes i think the company should be more transparent with what it buys. Why it there a need to stay mum if the transaction has been completed?

I don't think either of them fits Wheelock's strategy, unlike Hotel Properties and SC Global.

Anyway, if they are putting their money into companies that fit its strategy, it is a cheaper way than buying land directly.

They are speculating the market as well since they have too much cash. And buying property stocks is cheaper than buying land anyway. Nobody sells land at a 50% discount of their land value, but you can buy property stocks at mroe than 50% discount to their NAV.
