Indeed that the company has been buying up a lot of quantity recently, but this doesn't means that downside is limited. I personally do not wish to add too much to the portfolio now though the long-term prospect is good with the upcoming airport terminals and the contract with Singapore Sports Hub.
Indeed coy buyback does not mean no downside; though I am impressed SATS seem more sensible in its coy buyback in that it somehow only buy at lower 25% percentile of recent 2years price action. Like today, there is no announcements on further coy buyback, last was 100lots on 11 Mar 14 @ $3. This coy don't fool around with coy cash & only buy when they see value in their stock price (gut feel here), kinda salute to its coy buyback ppl.

As for its prospects, indeed short-term cost pressures from staffing is there, but that's SG mostly. New contracts like Sports Hub & other airports, I wont say its a easy biz either as its always fighting to maintain profit & margins. My take is hopefully it could maintain overall same performance (after + & -) & give same dividend as last year, think that is quite gd for a blue chip size counter like SATS.

Back in Nov 2013, CCS was 'not able to conclude that the acquisition would not raise competition concerns, based on the information furnished in phase 1 review'.

This seems like the most pausible reason.

Surely if that was the reason, the CCS would have make some statement to that effect by now.

By remaining silent and not disclosing the actual reasons for the termination only let the conspiracy theorist have a field day and let their imagination run wild.
Looks like temasick got a better offer! Big Grin

Wow! 8 cts. So tempting. Good for those who are vested. I have been looking at Sats for some time now. But i havent studied enough of this company to warrant a entry.
