I rem sometime ago a Vietnamese tourist cried n knelt in front of a sim Lia sale guy who missold him extraordinary product. Quite a big hoo ha, even to the extent minister came out to talk, some good heart flew to airport gift him something. That one example. Here mlm is a probably even worse. best part is many are local aunties and uncles loaded w monies willing to pay high prices. Such I an irony.
I don't think the Vietnamese/SLS example should be lumped in with MLM. In that case, there was deception involved as the final price was not an agreed figure and thus is a legitimate cheating case. The product was never in dispute.
MLM / high pressure sales tactics / selling of sophisticated financial products cuts close to but does not amount to cheating. Put it simply, if a salesman has the gift of the gab and manages to convince a customer to buy a product at 10 X the retail price, is he cheating? To get to that, he might used physiological techniques, preyed on the ignorance of the customer or sheer greed so as to throw common sense out of the window.
For me anyone, anywhere, offers me something "free", the first thing comes to my mind is, "WHERE IS THE BEEF(CATCH)"?

There is nothing wrong for quality product being sold at high price because of its exclusiveness, just like why would healthcare related counters are usually traded at much higher PE. There is only something wrong when you are forced to buy these stocks and that the financial information are mistaken. In terms of stocks, we have MAS and SGX as regulators, in terms of the commercial products, CASE and Small Claim Tribunals are there to help.
First of all those avenues are deterrences and last resort. There's a huge difference if you approach the weak and pressure them to buy. Or mis sell hoping they did not ask the right question which they assume is expected. These are Morally unethical and disgusting behaviour. One day when such people meet their Almighty, i believe will have to pay back 100 folds if they remain unrepentant with excuses they have the "MORAL Rights" to "CHEAT".

Not all RMs go around cheating the weaks for their livings. Neither are all insurance agents. I am just pointing out trade where such agents abused their trusts.
Behaviour that is not something to be proud of to tell your friends and relatives. Maybe except for some arrogant wall streets who pride themselves conning old women and joking it in the emails.
