I wrote a post back in 2011, when the market climate was very bleak. It reminds me of what is happening now (except the US seems like a brighter spot, whereas China and Asia seem like much bleaker places).

This is just a short snippet from that post, with my updates:

A few people commented to me that the market looks “volatile” & “dangerous” in the next few months and that we should wait and see before things get better.

Well, I understand how it might seem. The unrest in the Middle East, Libya, the Tsunami in Japan, the end of QE2 etc. The list goes on and on. [2015 Update: Replace this with current crisis: Oil, China, EU]

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

It seems like everyone is getting very bearish in Malaysia, Hong Kong, South Korea and China... and of course oil and gas. Saw a post on AK's blog about how people are sad that their portfolios are deeply in the red, and this is unprecedented.

I don't blame them given the short-term news cycle. I have no idea whether we are at the end of bear cycle, but the pendulum certainly has swung, and Asian stocks look very compelling at this point!

Cheers,
compelling is good! Big Grin REAL VALUE emerges when all the FATS are skimmed off, AND we get a good margin of safety too!! wat GREAT DEAL!!! Big Grin

asiareport : you must be joking right about the bear cycle. STI is not even 10% off its highs, still above 3000...

Its been more than half year since QE3 ended. was expecting a correction similar to the one in 2011 after QE2 ended. Perhaps this month is just the start of a bear cycle.
Outside the STI:

Small-mid caps (Oil & Gas, Property Sectors)
Greece
Many sectors in Hong Kong
Macau Casinos
Anything related to Oil & Gas anywhere in the World
