S'pore explores initiative to study insurance protection against natural disasters

SINGAPORE (Nov 6): Capital markets in Asia need to work together to better manage the region's increasing exposure to risks relating to natural catastrophes, says a senior Singapore central bank official.

"One less talked about area where market integration holds great promise is in insurance. Although natural catastrophes – and damage caused by them – have risen in Asia in the last ten years, we remain significantly underinsured against perils like flooding," Jacqueline Loh, the Monetary Authority of Singapore's Deputy Managing Director, said at a conference yesterday.
