Reports on developers’ tax evasion inaccurate: China tax bureau
BEIJING -- China’s state tax bureau has refuted a news report about Chinese developers’ practices to avoid paying taxes, saying the report misunderstood how the tax is collected, the Dow Jones news agency reported.
“The large amount of tax arrears calculated by some people ... the methods are incorrect and there’s misunderstanding and misreading of tax policies and tax collection,” the State Administration of Taxation said in a statement posted on its website late Tuesday.
The bureau did not name any news organisations in the statement but China Central Television reported on Sunday that 45 listed developers, including Soho China and China Vanke, owe more than 3.8 trillion yuan (S$781 billion) in land-appreciation taxes from 2005 to 2012.
