S’pore becomes a destination for junk bonds

SINGAPORE — Companies in South-east Asia are looking at Singapore as a viable alternative for high-yield bond issues in amounts that would be too small for US dollar investors, according to IFR, a Thomson Reuters publication.

The push comes as so-called junk bonds became a predominant theme this year in the Singapore market, with a record number of small-cap and sub-investment grade companies selling debt in the city, attracting investor interest by offering juicy coupons.

Data from Thomson Reuters showed that close to S$5 billion of high-yield deals were done to date this year, compared with an estimated S$4.4 billion and S$3 billion in 2012 and 2011. Many of these deals were for amounts smaller than US$100 million (S$124.7 million), too small for the US dollar market.

It is not available to retail investors, but accredited investors, who can get the info from their private bankers aka RM.
ah, just another scam where men in ties sell you junk of which you cannot check the market price ...
They are aware the regulatory framework here is weak, and they can get away so easily like their S chips counterparts.
People have seen Pan Electric, Clob, S-Chips, Unit Trusts, Gold scam, shared time, oil pod, Links Island type of issues just this week. Maybe we will see the next blow-up in SG investment markets will be this Junk bonds when returns clipped or poor earning surfaces. I seen names of popular commodity counter listed raising large amount of cash. Seems no one shouting loud enough.
Mas and SGX let those S chips which were rejected by HKSE to list here, and these S chips made a big scoop with fraudulent accounts. Some of them just transferred the company money into their personal accounts thru some "lucrative deals". So far what have Mas or SGX do to protect the investors ?
These guys discover this is a land of paradise for fraudulent and they can get way scot free.
junk bond != junk....Google issued bond before it becomes a giant is also junk bond.

Junk bond is still senior than equity. Equity is the most junior capital.
i wanna buy some of these junk bonds too
where to buy?
i see sgx can only buy stuff like olam bonds, genting perp, cma bonds
where the other junk bonds??
