This is a company that i "accidentally"(ex-employee of HP) have for more than 30 years. i put it on DRIP in 1987 or later . By their DRIP /Price historical record, if i DRIP 1 or 2 years earlier, i would have been a millionaire (US $) now. Such is luck or God Blessings. And i started only with 73 shares or less. Now i have 672.55 shares.
What if i was working for IBM-definitely a US millionaire now.

NEW YORK: Hewlett-Packard said on Monday (Oct 6) that its corporate reorganisation would slash a total of 55,000 jobs, at least 5,000 more than its latest estimate.

The US tech giant, which also announced plans to split in two to achieve a sharper focus, said it had increased its prior estimate of 45,000 to 50,000 job losses "independent of the separation transaction".

HP faces uphill battle with newly minted PC unit

SEATTLE/SAN FRANCISCO - Hewlett-Packard Co's Chief Executive Officer Meg Whitman appeared to be banking on growth markets like 3D printing and a trickle back in PC sales when she announced on Monday a spin-off for the company's computer and printing business. But some on Wall Street are skeptical.

Investors and analysts generally gave a thumbs up on the move to separate HP's computer and printing business from its corporate hardware and services operations, sending its shares up almost 5 percent. Yet some questioned the move, expressing doubt over whether the newly christened "HP Inc" can break out of what appears to be a terminal slump in desktop computing.

“HP Inc will be a fairly good cash-generating machine but growth will certainly be a struggle," said Brian Fox, a portfolio manager at Standard Life Investments. "There's not a whole lot they can do to improve that growth profile.”

The split does creates a company with strong cash flows, a high dividend yield and a major market position. At the same time, though, it may raise operating costs over the longer term, and together with abortive talks to merge with EMC Corp , it could reflect HP's inability to grow profits organically, according to Bernstein's Toni Sacconaghi.

Focusing on the PC biz is missing the point.

Ink Jet is dead. Black Gold mine is exhausting. Laser printing has the entrenched photocopy guys as well as newcomers Samsung and Dell, not to mention old timers like Brother. More cut throat competition coming.

Likely scenario is flat revenue/ profit for PC and declining for printing going forward.
I will be very surprised, if the management focuses on PC biz. Isn't the corporate biz more profitable and the focused market?

PC/Printer biz as cash cow, and growth on corporate biz, is the scenario in my mind...

(not vested)

I'm saying analysts focusing on the stagnation of PC biz in their analysis rather than the tsunami in the printer biz is missing the point Smile

OK, noted. Analysts are always missing the key point, aren't they? Tongue
in a way they spinning off compaq and printer business, compaq they bought 25 billion years and years ago i think hard to find a buyer to still pay that kind of price so hive it off let them go by itself then focus on the core. less overhead more lean more responsive I think is what they trying to do.

I told you guys long back already beginning of thread she very ambitious woman, not going after money but make a name.

For the recent quarters, print segment are actually doing better than Hardware PC segment.
