New website for home buyers launched

An easy-to-use property website has been launched to satisfy the growing appetites of house hunters in the Republic.

It is run by The Straits Times' parent firm Singapore Press Holdings (SPH), and features up-to- date asking prices, data on past transactions, exclusive listings and analysis of the latest trends.

The portal's product manager Winston Lee said the aim was to help buyers make more informed decisions.

"We want to let those using our site have a hassle-free experience, particularly with something as complex as property matters," he added.

Called STProperty.sg, the site replaces the media company's ST701 Property portal.

It comes packed with new features such as loan and affordability calculators and a section specifically for renting rooms.

There are also property-related articles from The Straits Times and The Business Times, plus reports on price movements from leading firms in the industry.

Several property companies will publish exclusive listings on the site.

They include firms such as OrangeTee, HSR and Knight Frank.

ERA Realty key executive officer Eugene Lim said: "Home buyers are becoming more computer-savvy, so this is a good platform for us to showcase the properties we have.

"There is also a certain standard associated with the brand name, so people know they are not wasting their time on bogus listings."

The portal features more than 84,000 properties, ranging from private residential and HDB flats to industrial and commercial real estate.

There is also an STProperty application for the iPhone and iPad. This will allow house hunters to check out all of the features on the go and home in on properties available near them.

Mr Tan Tee Khoon, the managing director of KF Property Network, said the site would benefit both buyers and estate agents.
