Facebook hit with fresh IPO-related lawsuit
NEW YORK — A Facebook Inc shareholder in the United States filed a lawsuit over the largest social networking company’s botched initial public offering and is seeking to hold Chief Executive Mark Zuckerberg, directors and officers responsible for the damage.
The lawsuit by Ms Gaye Jones alleges that the company’s directors knew that Facebook did not disclose weaker revenue trends as more users accessed the website through mobile devices.

US approves Nasdaq payback plan for Facebook IPO, UBS unhappy
NEW YORK — United States regulators approved Nasdaq’s US$62 million (S$77.1 million) compensation plan for firms that lost money in Facebook’s glitch-ridden market debut, a victory for the exchange operator that also set the stage for potential lawsuits from firms seeking more.
The Nasdaq plan will give retail market makers far less than the US$500 million in estimated losses from Facebook’s initial public offering. Nasdaq said in a note to traders yesterday that the US Securities and Exchange Commission approved the plan, and that firms had one week to submit requests for compensation.

I have to admit that i lose track of technologies trend. I have a Facebook account, but under-used. I knew Whatsapp which is helpful messaging tool in overseas, but what are Kik? KakaoTalk? LINE? and WeChat?

LONDON — Facebook has lost millions of users per month in its biggest markets, independent data suggests, as alternative social networks attract the attention of those looking for fresh online playgrounds.
As Facebook prepares to update investors on its performance in the first three months of the year, with analysts forecasting revenues up 36 per cent on last year, studies suggest that its expansion in the United States, United Kingdom and other major European countries has peaked.

they already IPO and got their "exit" and probably got back all their investment. So even if all the user run away also no problem. Actually if millions people leave is actually good news for FB because usage of bandwidth processing and storage space becomes underutilized, they can remove or decommission equipment and save some expenses so costs comes down.
more people using FB is problem because these people are not paying anything, so less deadweight is actually good

They're all probably similar kind of Apps. I use Whatapps rather extensively to communicate with family members. I have different Groups for different purposes. For eg. it's a cheap way to send messages, photos or even short video clips to update family members when I'm on overseas hols (need either 3G or free WiFi to send) or even local hols, especially for the benefit of my kids' grandparents, in case they miss my kids... Over here, it's also useful to send stock market updates (prices, news links,..) with my tikam buddies during Special Situations eg. F&N, Kingsmen..
Before whatapps was a free download, I was using Kik (call me cheapskate!). My eldest kid was using kakotalk. Have not used LINE or WeChat, but should be serving similar purposes.
As for FaceBook, I do use it quite extensively, mainly for sharing stocks related updates with friends and family members having the same interest. I was sharing photos and videos with family members and friends but have become too lazy to upload them...
Facebook unlocks advertising on mobile phones
NEW YORK - Facebook has provided Wall Street with further evidence it has found a way to squeeze more advertising dollars from the increasing number of users who access its site on mobile devices.
The world’s largest social network said adverts on phones accounted for 30 per cent of the US$1.24 billion (S$1.53 billion) of advertising revenues it generated in the first three months of the year - up from 23 per cent in the final quarter of last year.

Facebook ‘likes’ Waze, to the tune of S$1.2b
TEL AVIV — Facebook is in advanced talks to acquire Israeli mobile satellite navigation start-up Waze for between US$800 million and US$1 billion (S$987 million and US$1.2 billion), business daily Calcalist reported yesterday (May 9).
The deal, which would be Facebook’s largest acquisition, would give the social networking company a mapping service and allow it to better compete with Google and Apple.

NEW YORK — It was supposed to be our IPO, the people’s public offering.
Facebook, the brainchild of a young CEO who sauntered into Wall Street meetings in a hoodie, was going to be bigger than Amazon, bigger than McDonald’s, bigger than Coca-Cola. And it was all made possible by our friendships, photos and family ties.
Then came the IPO, and it flopped. Facebook’s stock finished its first day of trading just 23 cents higher than its US$38 IPO price. It hasn’t been that high since.
Even amid the hype and excitement surrounding Facebook’s May 18 stock market debut a year ago, there were looming doubts. Investors wondered whether the social network could increase advertising revenue without alienating users, especially those using smartphones and tablet computers.
