Just came across this car ad by Renault in TODAY. Notice how it is worded to make people spend - "Look A Million Dollars". Emotional marketing at its best! To make you feel as if purchasing a $158,888 car will make you look like a millionaire. The photo also superimposes the car overlooking a cliff with a spectacular view, further reinforcing the notion of exclusivity, grandeur and luxury.

I used to study this in school, but this ad is really a prime example of how companies use psychological cues and wording to make people spend, spend and spend! Tongue

I look at the car itself doesnt look at all worth a million $.
They made a serious mistake with the pricing. It should be $148,888 or $168,888. Very few are going to buy as the '5' in the pricing is inauspicious to many here.

For the benefit of non-Chinese speakers here, 158 sounds like Sure (1) won't (5) prosper (8),... Big GrinBig Grin
It'd be interesting to see how much this ad helps their sales.

LTA publishes monthly stats on new car registrations by make. Not a very detailed breakdown of figures but good enough for evaluation purposes in this case I think. (link here)
I think the below advertisment is more of an emotional marketing.

You will want to sign up to be associated with the lifestyle after watching the commercial on TV.

This is the UOB Privilege Banking.

Being a part time copy writer of sorts.
What the ad is trying to say is that you'll look great driving it.
i.e. "John, you look like a million bucks in that suit"

In any case, it's always good to associate cars with a high price
for the snob appeal.
