Yes, I think this is mature thinking. To be honest, I was once quite irk by DW one liner posting. But I have now "straighten" out my thoughts, and began to agree with what Temp said above. Beside, I don't think DW has posted any malicious posting so far.
Aiyo, paiseh, paiseh; been there done that kind of things i can say. So i can say let it go lah. In other words, i am not much different when i was younger.
DW's post didn't violate any posting guides. No moderation required.

One reminder, please focus on post, rather on person.

SPH announces 3Q FY 2014 results..

Personnally, results are pretty much as expected, not a terribly exciting and brilliant performance.. Unable to arrest slide in newspaper adverts (down S$16m) and circulation revenues (down $3m), and are down 8% and 6% respectively. Seems no end to its "core business" revenues slide. That said, SPH's cost cutting measures and efficiency push - led by BCG, are progressing well and are seeing limited positive effects.

SPH's managed Property did well.. Paragon is 100% leased, and hopefully, Seletar Mall will come smoothly online circa end 2014. Overall, SPH's net attributable profits for 9 months 2014 are $260m, and looking into the cystal ball, should hover ard $320m-$340m at full Yr2014, barring anymore divestments (such as 701).

See link for more insights.

Going forward, can't expect tremendous performances with the newsprint sector. Revenue pie will continue to decline...Confused

- currently vested (for quite some while alr) -
I really wonder what is the floor for the revenue dip, excluding seasonal economic factors like very strong robust GDP growth which might props display segment advertisement for a while.

There are a few disruptive trends:
1) Online reading.
Will affect circulation revenue. The increase in digital circulation did not help the quarterly revenue of this segment but it did not show any significant decline too. I only work backwards Q0Q for 2 years.

2) Online advertisement.
This will affect advertisement revenue. This is segment that I thought correlated highly with GDP growth, e.g. due to the biggest "Print Segment" within the advertisement segment. But the thesis no longer holds as a spur of improvement of GDP numbers in 2013 from 2012 did not show in this segment.

Now there is this jobs Bank (nothing new, but now at national level), threatening it classified section e.g. recruits

Media business has nothing much to look forward to...

SPH is keeping up with reader's preferences. The subscription fee has been structured to promote print copy, instead of digital copy, which is logical at the moment...

------
Singapore, 7 October 2014 – The Business Times, the financial daily of Singapore
Press Holdings, will be launching a major refresh of its newspaper, website and mobile
apps tomorrow, Wednesday, October 8.
The new BT is designed to provide readers with a better reading experience and a more
enjoyable interaction with the paper. Its new masthead reinforces the paper’s identity as
a credible source of business news, insights and analysis. Wider columns and more
distinct fonts give the paper a crisp feel, and make for clearer reading.
The biggest change in the new BT, in print and online, will be how the news is reported.
The news will now be categorised by industry sectors – rather than geographical
markets – underlining the paper’s sharpened focus on business.
The new business sectors are:
 Real Estate
 Banking & Finance
 Energy & Commodities
 Technology
 Consumer
 Transport
 Life & Culture

You bet!

For example, the old ST android app was working well. Then several months ago I think a decision must have been made to cripple it.

A new app was rolled out. Caching doesn't work any more. Then somehow it triggered Google Play services to upload/download 50-80 MB of data each time suddenly. If you have your android in your pocket you can literally feel the heat of the communication. There were many complaints about battery life going down rapidly - they probably didn't realise that they had also wasted 50-80 MB bandwidth too each time, so it's a lot each time turn on ST app! Took several weeks to get this corrected.

Before another new problem appears. Now some sections do not load at all. Then the whole app doesn't launch BUT the ad which first appears when launch the app still shows - u know where their heart is.

Over the course of many months, new problems appear, get corrected after a long time, then other new problems appear again. Problems which the free news android apps (eg. Today online, CNA) never have.

ST online also has a very dreadful user experience. Though BT online is very much better than the ST version.

You probably are saying they are keeping up with readers' preferences tongue in cheek. Tongue

Hi swakoo, It seems lesser post from you, after our "KopiKat" buddy has disappeared. Big Grin

I will not disagree with you. It seems iPhone/iPad get better service than Android phones/pad. I do have many issues too, till I gave up, and focus on online or print copy.
Now having read the upgraded BT online, it really reinforces the differences between the BT and ST digital teams. The BT team has failed miserably in crippling it's digital versions. Unlike the ST digital team who have very successfully ensured that any subscribers remaining will opt for their ST hardcopy version with all the ads. Wink

Yeah, wonder what on earth happened to our tikam buddy - hope he's keeping well.
