Normally no dividend on Q3, and I do not expect SPH will give out Q3 dividend this year.

But probably a better than expected dividend by end of the year, which is 5 months from now?

Oops sorry. I confused it with the 4Q results which they always gives dividend Tongue. SPH has a strange FY ending. Then it's probably factoring the income from the opening of Clementi Mall.

Within 1min of 5pm closing, someone urgently needed to buy a lot of SPH till it closes at $4 (a level it'd not hit since I don't know when).

16:59:13 3.970 1,000 Buy Up
16:59:13 3.960 3,000 Sell Down

Simply amazing... re-rating in progress? Big Grin
Yes, last minute buy-up @ $4, with volume of 1658 lots, which is more than 26% of total volume today (6255 lots)

SPH share-back-up? or BB is buying? Let's see any hints from SGX web site? Tongue
Anything can happen in the stock market.
So i was greedy at the last CD period therefore missed selling S P H at 3.98, 3.99, seems to be right now. But the next day or weeks or..... who really knows? No stock no matter how blue will not be affected by "catastrophe disaster" like 2008/2009 or Sept 11 2011. And the longer you are in the market (BUY & HOLD people like me) the more likely you will be hit by one. In fact you will be guaranteed hit by one if you are always in the market. So it is a "paradox" to say BUY & HOLD is less risky then buy and monitor and sell and buy and monitor and sell. NO? Big Grin

We should view the strategies of "buy-and-hold" and "buy-sell-buy" in the following perspective.

The strategy is an execution strategy, which applicable on suitable stocks managed.

"buy-and-hold" strategy on stocks which has long-term future prospects i.e. growth stock. I will not "switch" this type of stocks, to avoid missing out the growth.

"buy-sell-buy" strategy on stocks which are on stable market and provides stable income i.e. dividend stocks. To "switch" might not be a bad idea Tongue

IMO, both strategies are good, depend on which stock we are talking aboutBig Grin

YMMV

You are right. My point is for "BUY & HOLD" you must be prepared for "CATASTROPHE DISASTER SCENARIO" Another words you don't need the money in the stock market for a long time. And most important you have the psyche to take the humongous shock. You must really go through at least one then you will know whether you have the psyche or not. If you had and survive, you have passed the crucible-fire-test. You have passed what WB always believe : Temperament Ranks above IQ When Investing. IMO. Big Grin

In your opinion, how much of a hit in the gut (ie portfolio) must you take in your cited "CATASTROPHE DISASTER SCENARIO" before you are considered to have pass the crucible-fire-test. Confused

So far I can say I have survived 2 - the 9-11 and GFC. 9-11 was quite testy for me since I was still relatively new in the game and din have much bullet to pick up opportunistic buy. GFC was better. Most of all I bought at that time (including SPH) have been great opportunistic buys. Cool

That say, personally I'm not sure if I have pass the crucible-fire-test. Tongue

I myself have not gone for the test as my kung-fu is too low level, but I imagine that it's something like those Shaolin Temple movies.

You'll get hit right, left, centre, top, botttom.. and have to be able to catch 'falling knives' with your bare hands. After you clear the final test of the 18 Arhats (十八羅漢) and you survive the many hits in the guts, there'll be this burning fire crucible which you have to lift with both your forearms. Forever imprinted (by the intense heat of the crucible) on your forearms will be the symbol of the Bull & Bear (one on each arm). That's also how you can identify those who'd successfully cleared this test... Big Grin

Those who are blogging here means they are alive. Alive means they are still investing (surviving) in the stock markets. As to whether you have the temperament like what WB thinks, only bacteria in your guts know. No one in this world really can tell you anything.
Besides there is this Force in this world we called Nature for those who only believe in himself. And His Grace makes everyone unique. So we have doctors, scientists, mathematicians,........ but not all of them can become successful in the stock markets. Whereas we may have roadsweepers, taxi drivers, blue collar workers and even market aunties still surviving in the markets. Maybe doing quite alright too. So don't you think WB 's belief : Temperament Ranks above IQ When Investing is true?
i do. i ask for HIS BLESSINGS for everything since i know i am not K. Though sometimes like all human beings i try to be KK. And that's where i lost a lot of market-profited money.) Amen.
