What do you think he or she was trying to test? Why did you think it was a test rather than a true question?

I am probably trying to give him the benefit of the doubt, than anything else.

Despite not been in the C-suite, I have had my fair share of such questions thrown to me. So I use it as a reminder to improve my temperament to be objective and not take things personally.
