The stock market for the retail investor is a zero sum game. Every time you buy thinking that prices are going up, there is some one on the other side selling thinking that prices will come down. Only one of you can be right. And usually it is the one with the expertise.

So if you want to be a successful value investor, you have to spend time and effort to develop the necessary skills.
